Daniel W. Riley passed away peacefully, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of honor, devotion, and deep love for his family.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Audrid Hugh Riley and Rose Marie Riley, Daniel grew into a man defined by courage, strength, and unwavering integrity. He later resided in Port Charlotte, Florida, where he continued to be a steady presence in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
Daniel served his country proudly in the United States Navy. As a commanding officer aboard the USS Ranger, he exemplified leadership, discipline, and patriotism. His distinguished service earned him the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korean), the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He wore his service with quiet pride and deep honor.
Above all else, Daniel was a family man. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Carla Flickinger (Gar) and Christina Judd (Russell); and son Scott Courtney (Jodi). He was a proud grandfather to Mercedes, Maressa, Kyle, Raleigh, Marlee, Eddie, Carleigh, Hannah, Kody, Kelsey, Coy, and Grant, and a cherished great-grandfather to fourteen great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on through each of them.
He is also survived by his brothers, Phil (Linda), Bill (Kay), and John (Rhonda), along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Rose Marie Riley and Audrid Hugh Riley.
Those who knew Daniel will remember his strength of character, his steadfast leadership, and the deep love he carried for his family. His life was one of service — to his country, to his loved ones, and to the values he held dear.
He will be deeply missed, forever honored, and always remembered.
There will be a graveside service for Daniel on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 11:00 am. The family will meet at the funeral home at 10:45 am and process out together for the services.
