Mr. David Michael Gilbert, Sr., Indianapolis, went home to be with the Lord on the early morning of Tuesday, December 15, 2020. He was 67. David was born September 10, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana a son of the late Ralph Walsmith and Eunice N. (Burnell) Gilbert.
David attended Mooresville High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1973 and had been employed at Plainfield High School as a groundsman for over 20 years, retiring in 2007. He spent much of his leisure time working puzzles and word searches and watching the Indianapolis Colts and the Dallas Cowboys play football on television. David was a faithful member of the Villa Baptist Church in Indianapolis where he served as an usher for several years. He was also a member of the AARP. He dearly loved his family and cherished the time he could spend with them, especially the grandchildren.
David is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Nancy Kay (Corey) Gilbert; his children, Denae Gilbert and DJ Gilbert; his grandchildren, Summer Rose Ramos, Aiden James Gilbert, Jaxon Corey Gilbert and Eva Kay Gilbert; his siblings, Pastor Wally Gilbert, Becky (Rev. Morris) Hunsucker and Gloria (Troy) Gryszowka as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his brother, Timmy Gilbert.
Services will be conducted at 2:00pm, Monday, December 21, 2020 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, with Pastor Morris Hunsucker and Pastor Wally Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Due the Covid-19 situation, the safety of our families and guests is our utmost priority. The family asks that guests wear facial covering and practice social distancing. Also, in accordance with the Governor's mandate, attendees will be limited to 25 people.
Please do not attend if you are feeling any symptoms of illness. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
