Delmer Edward Winstead, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away August 20, 2016. The son of Joel and Florence Brooks Winstead, Delmer was born June 30, 1925 in Slaughters, Kentucky.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A farmer, he worked for Allison, A Division of General Motors for 36 years. Delmer attended Southwood Assembly of God Church, where he served as an usher. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and anything that would allow him to work outside. For several years, he worked for the Greenwood Meijers. Family was his life, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Delmer is survived by his wife, Thelma M. Duncan Winstead, whom he married on May 25, 1946; daughters, Judy (Charles) Miller and Patricia (Michael) Baker, both of Greenwood and Melinda (Robert) Turner of Greenfield; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant sons, Larry Edward and Jimmy Ray Winstead and brother, Norman Winstead.
Pastor Keith Williams will conduct a funeral service at 12:00 noon Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service on Thursday. Burial with military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
