Obituary

Delores Jean (Runyon) Jones, age 83, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018.  She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Bert Lorn Runyon and Bertha Lou (Spann) Runyon on June 20, 1935.  Delores was married to Charles "Don" Jones July 17, 1953 at St. Anthony's Rectory, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Delores always enjoyed being outside with nature.  As a young girl, she would choose to work in the yard rather than help with housework.  As a young wife, she spent summers with her flower and vegetable gardens. She and her family, also, enjoyed many summers boating on Lake Monroe.   In addition to raising five children, Delores loved to cook for her family, especially on Sundays and holidays.  Being a skilled seamstress, sewing her children's clothes and her sister's wedding dress, was among her talents.  Delores worked at American Fletcher National Bank and as a bookkeeper at both Ertel Manufacturing and Mitchell and Scott Machine Company.

Delores spent most of her time lovingly attending to her large family and their growing family's needs.  After her children were on their own, she and Don enjoyed trips to Naples, Florida.  She found a little special time for herself once a year to take a short four day trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee to enjoy the mountains with her sisters, nieces, cousins, and female friends.

Delores was a loyal and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend.  She was one of those rare people who put other people's needs before her own.

She was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband of 65 years, Charles "Don" Jones.

She is survived by her sons, Mark, Richard and Kent (Donna) Jones; daughters, Linda Jones and Laura (Robert) Benavides; sisters, Shirley (Kenneth – deceased) Ashman and Sherry (Doug) Hiner; grandchildren, Dustin, Lauren, Stephanie, Ryan, Robert, Hunter, Stuart and Mitchell; great grandchildren, Matthew, Alexis, Frankie, Alexzander, Madison, Peyton and Hayden and many brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm with a funeral service at 12:00 pm in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
