Dennis E. Purkhiser, age 69, of Morgantown, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. He was born April 24, 1944 in Beech Grove, IN to George E. and Wilma J. (Sparks) Purkhiser.

Dennis was an electrician at Indianapolis Power & Light for 15 years, retiring in 1981. He was an avid mushroom hunter, fisherman and was a faithful member of the Purple Martin Association. He adored his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dennis married the love of his life, the former Linda Lacefield, on August 22, 1962 in Ohio Co., KY and she survives him along with their children, Crystal Painter, of Greenwood, Beth (Jim) Hamm, of Brown Co., Mitch (Kim) Purkhiser, of Bloomington, and Rachel (Kevin) Pool, of Brown Co.; brothers, Jerry (Joyce) Purkhiser, of Greenwood, Perry Purkhiser, of Lebanon, IN; sisters, Judy (Phil) Sims, of Brown Co. and Bonnie (Lewis) Jones, of CA; ½ brother, Russell Wetzel; step brothers, George (Diane) Wetzel, of Brown Co., Charles Wetzel, of MO, Devon Wetzel; step sisters Joanne Isom and Treva Wetzel; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Noah Purkhiser; sister, Carolyn Stickles; ½ brother Bob Wetzel.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Morgantown. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
