Mr. Donald Ray 'Don' Speaks, Greenwood, passed away on the late afternoon of Tuesday, January 25, 2022. He was 74. Don was born April 13, 1947 in Somerset, Kentucky, a son of the late Kenneth and Pauline (Staples) Speaks.

Don came to Indiana with his family as a child and attended Ben Davis High School where he was a member of the graduating Class of 1965. A proud veteran, Don honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He had been employed at the Truck and Bus Division of General Motors serving for 30 years until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 23.
Don was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He also spent some of his leisure time woodworking, creating beautiful pieces of furniture. He enjoyed caring for his yard and did all of the landscaping around his home. Don also liked horseback riding as well as motorcycle riding. Don deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and looked forward to the time he could spend with them.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Cindy (Childress) Speaks; his children, Kimberly (Michael) Hunter and Jason (Angie) Speaks; his grandchildren, Ashley Hunter, Dylan Hunter, Tanner York and Molly Speaks; his nieces, Kelly (Bill) Riemenschneider, Kristi (Jason) Setser and Christopher Burgess; and his siblings, Carol Burgess and Michael Speaks.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by a granddaughter, Ariel Hunter and a brother-in-law, Roger Burgess.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with burial following at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
