Obituary

Donald J. Kiser, 87, died Sunday evening at St. Francis Hospital in Southport, Indiana. He was a resident of Greenwood, Indiana.

Don was born May 20, 1926, in Marion, Indiana. His parents were Jont Wise Kiser and Idris (Jackson) Kiser. He is the youngest of three children, having a sister, Peggy, and brother, Gene (deceased). During World War II, Don served two years in the United States Navy in the Pacific theater.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary Maxine (Bilyeu) Kiser. On June 23, 2013 Don and Maxine celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In addition, he has two sons from his first marriage, Michael Kiser (spouse Livia) and David Kiser (spouse Rebecca). He has two step-daughters, Dianne Birchler (spouse Rick) and Marti Pope (deceased) (spouse Jim, also deceased). Don has nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

After moving to Greenwood, Don and Maxine opened Don Kiser Cleaners and owned it for over 25 years. Previously, he worked at Indiana Bell for 20 years. Don graduated from Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis and attended classes at Purdue University.

Don was a member of the Greenwood Methodist Church, the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, the Greenwood Rotary Club, and the United States LST Navy Association. He loved watching football, especially the Indianapolis Colts, traveling, and scuba diving. He was an accomplished wood worker.

Services will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and Funeral Home in Greenwood, Indiana. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm and a service will follow. The interment at 3 pm will be accompanied by a 21 gun salute and the playing of taps.

Don will be missed by friends and family including his caregivers of the past several years; Lauri Newman, Diane Holtgrave, Jamie Freije, Lecia Miller, Lisa Cothron, and Patty Sherman--all of whom loved him dearly
