Donald Bruce LaFountaine, of Flower Mound, TX, formerly of New Whiteland, IN, passed away in the early evening of November 14, 2022. He was 83 years old. Donald was born in Springfield, MA on July 5, 1939 to his parents Frank and Mary LaFountaine. He graduated from East Hampton High School in Massachusetts. Donald met his wife Shirley at Ft. Knox, KY. Donald and Shirley married on June 28, 1984 and shared many years of marriage together until her passing in 2004. Donald answered the call of this nation by serving in the United States Army where he was a Tanker. He started out
driving the tank working his way up to tank commander. Donald was in combat during the time of the Vietnam War. He served in the 1 st Cavalry Division and then the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment Blackhorse in Vietnam. After his period of faithful service moving up the ranks to Command Sergeant Major, he was honorably discharged as a decorated soldier. Donald was a 30 year veteran with the US Army. He was very proud of serving his nation and continued to work in the Defense Finance Accounting Services assisting his fellow veterans with their retirement benefits for over a decade after leaving the Army. Donald served as the Prior Commander for the Veteran of Foreign Wars and was active in the American Legion. Donald looked forward to the yearly Blackhorse reunions with his brothers of the 11 th ACR Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia travelling to different parts of the United States for the week long affair. Donald was passionate about American freedom and enjoyed exercising his freedom in a creative way. He loved to sing karaoke with his friends at the VFW. He was a Steely Dan fan and never failed to rouse the crowd with their classic hits. Donald was a wonderful man, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind. Donald is survived by his children Kim Smith, Wendy (Ed) Brummett, and Keith (Lynn) LaFountaine; his bonus-sons, Tony (Jeri-Ann) Mills and David (Lisa) Mills; his grandchildren, Corey, Chelsea, Sarita, Anthony, Delando, Karly, Tony Jr., April and Garrett; his many great grandchildren; his several nieces, nephews, cousins and his first wife Christa LaFountaine.
Donald is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley LaFountaine; his parents; his bonus-son, Bruce Mills; his grandson Dalton Mills; his siblings, Pat LaFountaine and Thomas LaFountaine. A visitation will be held for Donald on November 28, 2022 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. A funeral service will immediatley follow starting at 12:00pm. At 1:00pm at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, military honors will be presented followed by a burial.
