Donald Dwaine Natterstad, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in Arizona. He was born on June 1, 1925 in Paxton, Illinois to Orville Joseph Natterstad and Nina Beryl Mullinax. He moved to Indianapolis, Indiana as a child. Don graduated from Southport High School in 1943. Immediately upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served proudly aboard the battleship U.S.S. Tennessee in the Pacific until February 1946.
Don''s marriage to Anne Shirley Horton occurred on May 5, 1951 and they were blessed to celebrate 59 years together before her passing. He worked as an instrumentation engineer for Detroit Diesel Allison, an Aircraft Engine Division of General Motors from 1951 to 1980. After retirement, he was a regular with the breakfast crowd at Hardees for over 20 years. He also enjoyed many years of entertainment with friends at Walnut Ridge Golf Course, where he scored sever holes in one.
Don is survived by his daughter, Tina (Jesse) Galloway, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne, on May 13, 2010, by his son, Stephen, on February 15, 2002, his son Brian, on April 4, 2005, and his daughter, Cheryl Glascock on November 8, 2005. He will be missed by his family and friends, especially those at Horizon Bay Assisted Living in Chandler, Arizona.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12th at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens & Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN. Entombment at Forest Lawn will follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to a veteran''s organization.
