Donald Eugene Vondenhuevel, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away August 23, 2012. The son of Charles and Arlene Liller Vondenhuevel, Donald was born December 29, 1930 in Sidney, Ohio.
A Corporal, he was an US Army veteran of the Korean War, earning the Occupation Medal Japan, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. In 1985, after 35 years of service, he retired from the U.S. Post Office where he started as a clerk, was then in equipment maintenance and retired as a supervisor.
He was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church and the German American Klub. Donald loved to fish, was an avid bowler in several leagues and liked to play cards.
Survivors include his wife, Edith S. Grubbs Vondenhuevel of Indianapolis, whom he married on May 8, 1952 in Jeffersonville, Indiana; sister, Patricia Petersimes; brothers, Richard F., Chester R. and Thomas J. Vondenhuevel, all of Sidney, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by sisters, Audrey Vondenhuevel and Loretta Counts and brother, Charles F. Vondenhuevel.
Msgr. Anthony Volz will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 in St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Road, where friends may call after 12 noon. Burial with military honors will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
