Donna M. Mitchell, 76 of Somerset, Indiana, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026 after an extended and courageous battle with cancer. She was born to the late Wayne and Mary Brinson of Bedford, Indiana on November 30, 1949.

Donna grew up in and around Bedford where she met her future husband, Thomas Warren Mitchell. They married on November 15, 1969. Together, they had two sons, Samuel Bradley Mitchell and Dennis Earl Mitchell.

While supporting her husband and raising her children, Donna worked tirelessly to earn her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Ball State University focusing on business and accounting.

Donna’s first love was spending time with her grandchildren, Thomas Mitchell, Samantha Mitchell, and Jordyn Mitchell. They were the light of her life, and she was so proud of them. They always brought a smile to her face. 

Donna liked to stay physically fit. In her younger years, she played competitive racquetball until injuries sidelined her. She enjoyed playing and watching golf with family and friends. She was also a member of the YMCA for many years which is how she met three of her closest friends, Janet Surber, Pam Wickens and Charlotte Hahn. They loved to travel, seeing sites around the United States.Taking pictures was one of her favorite hobbies while on her trips. She loved to show them to family and friends upon her return.

Donna spent her life serving others. As the wife of a teacher/administrator, you would often see her walking the sidelines at high school football games or sitting in gym bleachers cheering on the home team. She spent several years working as an education instructor at Marion General Hospital and finished her working career at THE ARK Christian Ministries (Converse, Indiana) as their Accountant. She adored the people she worked with and always looked forward to summers when campers would arrive. Even though she officially retired in 2020, she continued to support the camp by helping with mass mailings when she could. She also looked forward to weekly ladies’ lunches with her former camp colleagues. The local Subway employees knew what they wanted before they even placed their orders!

Donna always enjoyed cooking. Her specialties included Sunday fried chicken dinners and homemade noodles for Thanksgiving. Later in life, she fell in love with container gardening. She was quite successful and would share her produce with family and friends.

Donna will be remembered for her strength and love for family and friends. She will truly be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her and love her. Donna is survived by her children Bradley (Amy) Mitchell and Dennis (Lauren) Mitchell; three grandchildren Thomas Mitchell, Samatha Mitchell and Jordyn Mitchell. She was preceded in death by both parents and her spouse, Thomas Mitchell.
