Doris M. Skinner Hickman, 83, went home to be with her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, September 19, 2009 at Morgantown Health Care-Inn with her daughter and sister-in-law by her side. She was born November 19, 1925 in Morgan County to Ralph and Mona (McCoy) Skinner. She is survived by her son, Dr. Tom (Lani) Hickman of Colorado. Her daughter, Carol Sue (Ken) Hansen of Morgantown. Two brothers, Leon Skinner of Franklin and Dean (Myrna) Skinner of Nineveh. Three grandchildren, Kelly (Joe) Brougher of Indianapolis, Jennifer (Lawrence) Morrissey of Fishers and Jeff (Christie) Hickman of Colorado. Eight great-grandchildren, Blair, Logan, Luke, Aidan, Marquax, Finn, Alyssa & Eli. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hickman of 59 years in 2005. One granddaughter Kerry Kim Hynds in 1999. Her parents and one brother Kirk Skinner in 1954. She grew up in Morgantown and graduated from Morgantown High School in 1943. She worked at Camp Atterbury during WWII and Whitakers grocery store in Morgantown. She married Richard Hickman May 28, 1945. They worked side by side in their four businesses, Shell Station, Hickman''s Regal Store, Hickman''s Laundromat and Hickman''s Trailer Sales. She was a former member of the First Christian Church in Morgantown and later Emanuel Church in Greenwood. She was a past PTA President of Morgantown Schools. She enjoyed her Home Economics Club and made many arts and crafts her family will always enjoy. She had a passion for sewing and made many of her own clothes and clothes for her family. She wrote poems for people and one poem "My Song Story" taking titles from gospel songs and making them into a beautiful religious story. She ministered in prison ministries and devoted time to Good News Ministries in Indianapolis. She and her husband visited with patients in nursing homes and hospitals weekly, always sharing her Christian love and faith to all who crossed her path. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved gospel music, reading her bible and watching the Lawrence Welk Show. A service will be conducted at 2:00pm Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135 in Greenwood with Rev. Marion Glover and Brother Charles Denney officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00am until 2:00pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family would appreciate memorials to be made to the Morgantown Health Care-Inn at 140 W. Washington St., Morgantown, IN 46160 or to Americare Hospice at 1150 N. Main St., Suite A, Franklin, IN 46131.
