Mrs. Dorothy Mae Cullinane, Avon, passed away on the morning of Monday, December 28, 2020. She was 92. Dorothy was born December 23, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana the daughter of Edward and Dorothy (Howell) Bowles.
Dorothy attended Emmerich Manual High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1946. She then earned her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from the University of Indianapolis in 1967 and ultimately earned her Masters in 1971 from Butler University. She invested in the lives of young people as a 4 th grade teacher at Southport Elementary School for 13 years. Dorothy was a member of the St. Barnabus Catholic Church, Indianapolis Athletic Club and Royal Oak Country Club. She was also a member of the Greater Indianapolis Republican Women's Club. In her leisure time, Dorothy enjoyed traveling, reading and music, especially that of the 'crooners' and orchestral music. She was an epicurean of food and wine. She loved animals and particularly caring for her two Maltese dogs.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Leslie Nichols, (Jeff Robison), her stepchildren, Mike (Anne) Cullinane, Jim (Nancy) Cullinane and Rita (Jeff) Cullinane; her grandchildren, Sarah Rossier, Justin (Kellie) Nichols, Suzanne (Augie) Rojas, Michael (Kristy) Cullinane, Christy Miller (Scott) Edwards, Jim (Emily) Miller, Kevin (Kim) Miller and Michael Miller, sister, Barbara Pemberton and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her first husband, Wayne Snider; her second husband, Michael Cullinane and her brothers, Donald Bowles and Dick Bowles.
Services will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Monday, January 4, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with burial following at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Monday. Contributions can be made to Perry Township Education Foundation, Attn: Amelia Miller, 6548 Orinoco Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
The safety of our families and guests is of our utmost priority. Please remember to wear facial coverings and practice social distancing while at the funeral home. Also, the services will be limited to 25 attendees. If you are feeling any symptoms of illness, please do not attend. Thank you for your understanding.
