Mrs. Dorothy Alice
Higginbotham, Franklin,
passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, February 17, 2022. She was 85.
Dorothy was born February 26, 1936 in Greenwood,
Indiana, a daughter of the late
Wilford Skeel and Lillian May (McIntire) Caplinger.
Dorothy was a graduate of Greenwood High School and had been employed with
Franklin Plastic Products and retired in 1998 after 20 years of service.
Dorothy was an accomplished
seamstress and enjoyed sewing. She made clothing for her children and also for
dolls. She spent much of her spare time gardening and was once included in Tricklers
Magazine in an article which featured photos of her gardens and roses. She enjoyed
watching birds and squirrels which led to her love of building and painting birdhouses.
She also enjoyed playing Euchre and listening to classic country music,
especially that of Conway Twitty.
Dorothy at one time was the
owner of L&D Café in Indianapolis.
She was well known for creating all the food from scratch. She also prepared delicious
desserts at Christmas most notably her banana pudding. Dorothy deeply loved her
family and cherished the time she could be with them.
Dorothy is survived by her
children, Linda (Bernie) Hutchinson, Beverly (Kip) Layman, Donna Clark and Stephanie
(Mark) Crockett-Lloyd; her step-children, David (Liz) Higginbotham, Bobby
(Michelle) Higginbotham, Jimmy (Sandy) Higginbotham, Terry (Perry) Mink, Lenny
Higginbotham and Denny Higginbotham; her siblings, Chuck (Johanna) Skeel and
Martha Ulrich as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents,
she is preceded in passing by her husband, Waldon 'Hig' Higginbotham; a
daughter, Susan Bowen; her granddaughters, Christina Nicole Crockett and
Heather Higginbotham and two great-grandchildren, Kaison Lynn and Ryleigh Lynn.
Funeral services will be
conducted at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home,
Greenwood.
Burial will follow at Forest
Lawn Memory
Gardens.
The family will receive friends
from 11:00 am until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
