Dorothy Victoria Klemesrud, 93, of Indianapolis died at her home Mon., Feb. 22, 2010. Born to the late Wilmer and Victoria Erickson Hanson on a farm in Arthur, Iowa on Dec. 13, 1916, with the support of only brother, now deceased, Warren Hanson, she graduated from Iowa State University. On Nov. 22, 1941 she married Herman L. Klemesrud, who preceded her in death in 1988.
A free spirit, in 1942 Dorothy earned her pilot's licence, then settled down to become a homemaker, moving to Indianapolis in 1969 to retire as Teacher's Aide at Lincoln Elementary. As a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church she welcomed many into the community.
Surviving are children and spouses Vicki and Charles Sampson, Bruce and Lynn Klemesrud, Byron and Barbara Klemesrud, and Elaine Klemesrud, plus nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at 10 a.m. on Sat., Feb. 27 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, followed by A Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m.
Memorials may be given to Resurrection Lutheran Church, 445 E. Stop 11, Indianapolis, IN 46227 for the Sarah Marie Klemesrud Foundation benefiting the homeless or the Heifer Foundation International.
