Dorothy (Dottie) J. Smith Furgason, 80, of Beech Grove, IN went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2017 surrounded by family and their love for her. She spent her early years in Indianapolis prior to moving to Beech Grove, IN and settling down. Always the hard worker, she was employed at Western Electric (AT&T) for many years where she later retired.
She was a loving and faithful wife of 62 years to Carl E. Furgason, who preceded her in death. Dorothy is also preceded in death by her parents, Albert W. Smith and Lucille M. Smith Davis.
She is survived by her sister, Barbra Spoonamore; four beloved children, Carl Furgason, Mamie Berry, Teresa Johnson and Alvey (Cynthia) Furgason; 9 grandchildren, Ashley (Matthew), Carl, Carley (Ryan), Eddie, Jazmine, Kayleigh, Kyle, Tabatha and Thomas (Beka); 14 great grandchildren and one niece, Cindy.
Dorothy was known to be a fun-loving sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend who could often be heard laughing and enjoying life. If you went to her house hungry, she told you to open the icebox and eat. If you went to her house tired, she told you to go lay down on the davenport and take a nap. Whatever you needed, she provided. However, if sports or her soaps were on, you better think twice about touching her remote.
She also enjoyed crosswords, puzzles, reading her Bible, teaching Sunday School, drinking coffee while watching the ocean (a memory her sister, Barbra will cherish forever) and spending time with her family. Cookouts at Dorothy's house were an event you never missed and her homemade pumpkin pie was fought over every Thanksgiving.
Though those she has left behind to go on without her will mourn a great loss, Dorothy would want you to celebrate the life she lived and look towards the future knowing she's there every step of the way with you. Take peace in knowing she departed from this world to be with family that left before her and was comforted in the Lord's arms as she said goodbye.
"May the constant love of caring friends soften your sadness, may cherished memories bring you moments of comfort, and may lasting peace surround your grieving heart." - Unknown
