Douglas Sherwood Young, 76, of Indianapolis, passed away June 26, 2014. The son of Albert and Nellie (White) Young, Douglas was born July 10, 1937 in Pikeville, Kentucky.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Douglas retired as a machinist from Ford Motor Company in 1999 after 27 years. He was a member of Warren Park Wesleyan Church.

Douglas is survived by daughters, Sheri (Mike) Keefer, Kathy Gribbins, Teresa Young (Ronald Meredith), Beth Stephenson and Sharon Hammond; brothers, Ronnie and Royce Young; grandchildren, Misty Scheffel, Joshua Keefer, Amie and Steven Gribbins, Danielle Stephenson, Joshua Young, Timothy, Dustin and Christopher Hammond; great-grandchildren, Logan, Lucas, Layton and Leia Young, Lane and Rachel Scheffel and Brooklyn Gribbins; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Susan (Cassetty) Young, and siblings, Clarence Young and Joylene Simmons.

Funeral services 1:00 p.m. July 3, 2014 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. July 2, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
