Earl William "Bill" Read, 77, of Indianapolis passed away September 2, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Bill was born February 14, 1940 in Indianapolis, IN to Ethel Marie and David Clapp Read, both preceding him in death.

Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 23 years and was a decorated veteran. Following the military, Bill worked for the Marion County Sheriff''s Department until retirement. After retiring Bill worked for Blue Line Security. He spent much of his retirement fishing and golfing with family. He loved to watch sports and played the occasional card game in his garage with his stepsons. He was a master woodworker and he will be remembered through his beautiful pieces.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Julia "Judy" Pero-Read; stepchildren, Robbie (Sheena) Pero, Jerry (Brenda) Pero, Charlie (Tina) Pero, Todd (Michele) Pero, Chris (Beth) Pero, A.J. (Penny) Pero, Kelly (Eric) Doerflein, Christy (Jeff) Nicolay and Amy Twomey and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 6 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 7 at 10:00 am, also in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
