Eddie attended George Washington High School in Indianapolis and was a member of the graduating Class of 1968. Eddie was a very proud veteran and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He had been employed for 22 years as a millwright for Indianapolis Power and Light (IPL) and retired in 2000 after 22 years of service. He then worked for another five years for the Carrier Corporation.
Eddie enjoyed fishing, muscle cars, basketball, beach volleyball and swimming. His love of hunting led to memberships in various conservation clubs. He deeply loved his family and looked forward to yearly vacations to Florida and Disney World. He also enjoyed trips to Hawaii and to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina especially to the Isle of the Palms. Eddie lived by the motto of 'if you work hard, you play hard'. Eddie was baptized at Mars View Christian Church in 2002 and had more recently attended Emmanuel Church of Greenwood.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Henson; his daughters, Shelley Henson and Erica (Mike) Perkins; his grandchildren, Amber, Kaylee, Breanna, Austin; his great-grandchildren, Tylee, Kameran, Kayden, Elizabelle, Arwynn, Jensen, Zuri as well as one on the way; his siblings, Barbara Wand, Donna Wilder, Nora Brawner, Betty Davis, Alvin Henson and Steve Henson as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his grandson, Gabriel Phillips and his siblings, Joe Henson, Burl Henson, Doyle Henson, Mike Henson, Kenny Henson, Herbert Henson, Danny Henson and Gayle Bodell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 30, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens where a contingent from the United States Army and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Military Honor Guard will confer military honors.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested those be offered to the Wounded Warrior Project.
