Edward Alan
Raynes
Aug 29, 1948 — Jan 30, 2019
Captain Edward Alan Raynes, U.S. Army, Retired
Edward (Ed) Alan Raynes, U.S. Army, Ret., 70, of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019. In 2011, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Terri Lynn Wilson-Raynes.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Meaghan Allyse Raynes-Slack (Brian) and son, Richard Alan Raynes (Natalie Llerena), two granddaughters, Braelynn and Mykah Slack. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Kellner (Helmut) and Linda Laurie, along with nieces and nephews.
Ed served as a Captain in the U.S. Army from June 1968 to November 1979. While serving in the Vietnam War, Ed became a fan of the sport of softball. When he returned to the states, he gave many years back to the sport and coached many slow-pitch softball national teams.
At his death, Ed owned TLR, a softball training facility in Beech Grove, with his daughter Meaghan, where he taught young ladies how to play softball for the love of the game. Ed enjoyed both teaching the game he loved and watching over his granddaughters while Meaghan taught. He was a man who cared for others and wanted nothing more than to help where he could. Ed always put his family and others above himself. He was an extremely loving husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a friend and jokester to strangers. He is now at peace and has rejoined his beautiful wife. Their presence will live on!
