Elgin J. Baker, age 83, of Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 with his loving family at his side. Elgin was born April 3, 1932 in Somerset, KY to Kellus and Delphia (Ping) Baker. He was a Machinist at Chrysler until his retirement. He also started and owned Baker Tree Service. He was a member of Beech Grove Masonic Lodge #694 and an avid hunter. He loved to sing and he attended Daily Walk Christian Church.
He married the former Retha P. Phelps on December 5, 1953 and she survives him along with his sons, Jeffrey (Julia), Scott (Becky) and Rodney (Michelle) Baker; daughter-in-law, Debbie K. Baker; brothers, McKinley (Carolyn Sue), Carl F. (Glenna) and Kellus R. (Dawn) Baker; sister, Odena Phelps; grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Buckner, Adrianne Cooper, Lindsey (Joe) Hercamp, Trevor, Ethan, Elise and Adam(Mia) Baker; great grandchildren, Brittany and Brady Buckner, Bryson Cooper, Tucker and Lucy Hercamp, Audrey and Avalyn Baker; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Ricky A. Baker.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood with Pastor Brian Buckner officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
