Elizabeth "Liz" A. Burgess, Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023. She was 74 years old. Liz was born in Mt. Vernon, IN and was raised by Wilbur and Christine Stoneburger. She attended Manual High School and later completed her GED with her family's encouragement. Liz married her husband, Donnie Burgess, on January 26, 1968 and together they shared 55 years of marriage.
Liz worked as a cafeteria manager for Decatur Township and retired after over 20 years of service. Liz was a member of Trinity Baptist Church with her husband for many years and enjoyed participating in a variety of church activities. She worked in children's and youth ministries that included directing three church musicals and singing in a vocal trio. Liz enjoyed cooking; some of her famous dishes included chicken and noodles, green beans, rolls and sausage bread. Liz loved supporting the youth in her life. She generously gave to those in need and nurtured those around her with her dry sense of humor. Liz will be remembered for her faithfulness, her forgiveness, and her love. She will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind.
Liz is survived by her husband, Donnie Burgess; her children, William (Jenny) Burgess and Deborah Johnson; her grandchildren, Levi (Tapanga), CJ, Jonah, Ethan, Natalee, Samuel, Matthew, Andrew and LilliAnn; her great grandchildren, Henry and Magnolia; her nieces and nephews, Renee, Rachel, Tracy, Rita, Wayne, and Ray.
Liz is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Gloria; her niece, Lori; her sisters-in-law, Shirley and Pam.
A visitation for Liz will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Trinity Baptist Church, 375 E. Southport Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46227, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 1:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 2:30 pm.
