Elsie Marie Brown, 89, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
Elsie was born in Indianapolis to Anthony Price Sr. and Mary L. (Stevenson) Price raised by her aunt (Grace Stevenson) and uncle (Garrison Price), and graduated from Ben Davis High School with the class of 1955. From an early age she was shaped by her devotion to the Nazarene Church and a quiet determination that defined everything she put her hands to, including teaching herself piano as a girl by slipping into the pew behind the church pianist, watching those hands move across the keys, and listening until the music became her own. She went on to earn her LPN and worked as a nurse before dedicating herself fully to her family and home.
As a homemaker and mother, she poured her heart into raising her two sons alongside their father Robert, and that love for her family was the thread that ran through everything she did. Over the years she also worked at Indiana National Bank, Tank Industry Engineers, and Westside Church of the Nazarene. She became a published author of two books, a painter of beautiful landscapes, and one of the finest storytellers anyone who knew her ever had the pleasure of sitting still for. She had a gift for finding the thread in a tale that made a whole room laugh. She was also a devoted grandmother who watched over her grandchildren when needed filling those hours with stories and painting lessons.
Elsie was blessed with three great loves. She married Robert Agan and shared 33 years with him before his passing; later married Marlin Moyer, with whom she shared 9 years; and finally married Roger Brown, sharing 6 years together until his passing. Each chapter was one of genuine devotion.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Robert Agan, Marlin Moyer, and Roger Brown; her son Curtis Agan; and her siblings Tony "Bud" Price, Betty Jo McCommon, Polly Stevenson, Jean Rutherford, Wanda White, Patty Ann Taylor, Kathy Price, David Price, cousin/siblings Walter Price, and Joe Price.
She is survived by her son Daniel (Sherry) Agan; her grandchildren Jonathan (Aimee), Harrison (Erin), Elizabeth, and Benjamin (Kati); Curtis's son Nick and his stepchildren Nate and Zach and their mother Bonnie; more than a dozen great-grandchildren; and the extended families she gained through her marriages to Marlin and Roger. Special gratitude is owed to Carol, Marlin's daughter, whose years of faithful care for Elsie were a gift beyond measure.
She was a woman of deep faith, restless creativity, and a laugh that filled every room she ever walked into. Heaven's choir just got a beautiful pianist.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Greenwood, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and a service to follow at 1:00 p.m.
