Obituary

Mrs. Emma Jane DeWitt, Boggstown, passed away on the early morning of Saturday, July 10, 2021. She was 92. Emma was born August 2, 1928 in Somerset, Kentucky, a daughter of the late William and Fanny (Brown) Shannon.

Emma attended school in Kentucky and then married Joseph H. DeWitt and enjoyed a marriage lasting 57 years until his passing in 2005. She had been employed at Franklin Plastics on the assembly line and served there for 15 years. Emma enjoyed traveling especially to the western United States with trips lasting a month at a time. She was a rock collector and spent a lot of her time working in her yard and caring for her flowers and plants as well as arranging her rocks around her yard. Emma was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Whiteland.

Emma is survived by her children, Stephen DeWitt and Linda (Brian) Blankenship; a daughter-in-law, Jeannie Bello; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Emma is preceded in passing by her husband, Joseph Homer DeWitt; her sons, Joseph DeWitt and James DeWitt; a grandson, Keith Blankenship; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Warren as well as two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Monday, July 19, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood with Pastor Danny Thomas officiating. There will be no public visitation. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
