Obituary

Emmons Blake Berry
February 12, 1933 – February 19, 2022

Emmons Blake Berry, 89, longtime Indianapolis Eastside resident, passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side, in the early morning hours of February 19, 2022.

A Fern Creek, Kentucky native, Emmons was born to the late Emmons and Estelle (Hardin) Berry on February 12, 1933.

Emmons, known to many as Berry or E.B., was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend. Faith and family were the most important things to Berry. Emmons had four children, twelve grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He was a member of Heather Hills Baptist Church, where he volunteered with the Men's Mission and Mercy Ministry.

A dedicated worker, Emmons completed his apprenticeship at Wallace Engineering, then worked as a tool and die maker at Chrysler for 10 years, before switching to Allison's-GM for 35 years of service.

Emmons enjoyed traveling with his wife. They were snowbirds and would spend time in Florida during the Indiana winters. He enjoyed many activities and sports, and welcomed anything that was competitive. He loved playing cards, darts, table tennis, racquetball, and a more recent favorite, shuffleboard. Emmons and his good friend, Bill, won many tournaments in Florida, and are members of the Shuffleboard Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Jeannie (Hurd) Berry; children, Emmons Blackburn (Nora) Berry, Wallace Lee Berry, Cindy Lynn Berry, Michael Scott Berry, and Chris (Joyce) Wisner; grandchildren, Madison, Ethan, Andrew, Tyler (Diana), Dylan, Jamie, Ashlee (Bobby), Jennifer, Julian, Mali, and Jackson; great grandchildren, Destiny, Fait, James, and Myles; a sister, Patricia Walsh. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Doris Sims; brother, Emmitt Berry; and granddaughter, Micki Banther.
