Esther Mae West's Obituary
Esther M. West, 92, passed away at Greenwood Health & Living on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. She was born in El Dorado, Kansas, September 27, 1919, to Pansy O. Kirts Brown and Leslie O. Brown.
She married William Michael West on March 21, 1942. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2004.
During World War II Esther supported the war effort working in an aircraft plant assembling B-25s. After the war, she and her husband returned to Columbus, Indiana, to raise their family. She was employed by Arvin Industries and Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation and, after moving to Indianapolis, by Perry Township Schools.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus where she taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed reading her Bible and time spent with her daughters and their families.
Mrs. West is survived by five daughters, Patricia (Alan) Collins, Phyllis (Walter) Hutton, Nancy West and Karen Colich, all of Indianapolis, and Julie (Frank) Stegbauer of Newburgh, Indiana. She has 10 grandchildren, Alan Collins Jr., Jennifer Collins, Meredith (David) VanRooy and Elizabeth (Clay) Gibson of Indianapolis; Michael (Cheryl) Hutton of Greenwood; Eric (Kim) Hutton of Reddick, Florida; Lesley (Scott) Levine of Powell, Ohio; Abby Colich of Chicago, Andy Colich of Los Angeles and Bradley Stegbauer of Newburgh, Indiana. There are 10 great-grandchildren, Evolet VanRooy, Grant and Lucy Gibson of Indianapolis, Ryan, Courtney and Nick Hutton of Greenwood, Derek Hutton of Reddick, Florida, Ashley (Pete) Jeffery of Starke, Florida, and Lily and Blake Levine of Powell, Ohio; and two great-great-granddaughters, Augest and Sarabelle Jeffery of Starke, Florida.
She is also survived by a brother, Chester Brown of Clermont, Florida; a sister-in-law, Verna West of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Norman Brown; and a sister, Margaret Kelley.
Services will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. SR 135, Greenwood, IN, on Monday, December 5, with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time at noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cats Haven, P.O. Box 30206, Indianapolis, IN 46230, or Southside Animal Shelter, 1614 W. Edgewood Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46217.
