Mr. Eugene Armon Dahl, 93, of Greenwood Indiana, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Eugene was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ellis August and Bertha May (Bales) Dahl on November 8th, 1931.
Eugene was gifted with musical talent and a beautiful singing voice. As a young teenager, he was dubbed "the biggest little voice in radio" by radio station WIBC where he was a star performer on a daily morning program called "Hoosier Jamboree." "Gene" served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and had many fond memories of his travel and service to his country. Semper Fi!
Gene held many positions in his work life. He worked 27 years at Atlas Commercial Towel and Uniform Service as a route man, production supervisor and plant manager. Later he worked in the automotive and service station business driving a wrecker truck and helping many stranded Hoosiers along the way. Gene always liked to stay busy and active so after a short pause, he returned to work for another 28 years with St Francis hospital as a service worker in the housekeeping department finally retiring at age 86.
In 1994 Eugene had a serious heart attack due in part to his habit of smoking cigarettes. He quit the next day and his breath of life was restored by God for another 31 years. A true blessing and testament to quit the habit of smoking. Gene enjoyed marathon games of euchre and was an avid sports fan. Like many Hoosier sports fans, he thought the referees and umpires always made bad calls against Indiana's teams which was comical to watch. His fondness for sports and card games was only surpassed by his love of music. He enjoyed "true country" as well as gospel music. When he harmonized with family members there was a certain peace and beauty in the world.
Gene is survived by his sons Ronald and Robert (Kathleen) Dahl, daughter Tonia (Steve) Richman, daughter in law Patricia (Conley) Dahl, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren
In addition to his parents, Ellis and Bertha Dahl, Gene is preceded in passing by his wife of 69 years Julia (Bray): his sons Gary Eugene and James Armon: his granddaughter, Carrie, as well as nine siblings.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30pm, Monday, August 25, 2025 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. He will be buried beside his wife at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home.
