A loving heart stopped beating and caring hands were stilled when Faye M. (Petree) Hayes, formerly of Bargersville, passed away at 4:25 am on August 19, 2021.

She was born June 21, 1929 in Indianapolis to Jacob and Cora (Spangler) Petree, the fourth of 12 children. She married Everett M Hayes June 5, 1948 in Indianapolis and were blessed with three children, Leigh Hayes, Elena Smith and Tim Hayes. Her husband preceded her in passing May 8, 1987 after 39 years of marriage. She is also survived by two wonderful granddaughters, Heather and Amanda and three great-grandchildren, Chelsea Carson, Hayley Carson and Aubrey Murphy. They were her pride and joy.

Faye graduated from Arsenal tech High School in 1947 and soon after became a secretary at Bemis bag at the age of 17. it was there that she met her husband.

After the birth of her three children, she began working again as an advertising manager for Seastrom Rental Equipment, leaving after five years to fulfill her dream of nursing. Graduating in 1970 from nursing school, she began her career at Johnson Memorial Pediatrics and worked there until 1982. She then began a 25 year career as an evening charge nurse at Greenwood Village South which she loved. She retired on her 25 ^th anniversary at the age of 77. She loved caring for the elderly and she became friends with many of the families who kept in touch many years later.

Her lifetime hobbies were vegetable and flower gardening, especially lavender and roses. She also enjoyed feeding and watching birds and reading history. She was a member of the Audubon Society and National Garden Club and always celebrated Arbor Day.

Faye is survived by her children, Elena Smith, Leigh Hayes and Tim Hayes; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her siblings, Florence Sparks and Wendell Petree as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by husband, Everett M. Hayes; her sisters, Laverne Reinke, Viola Johnson and Barbara Smidlin; her brothers, Harold, Charles, Jim, Donald, Vernon and Larry.

Services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Friday, August 27, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood with burial following at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
