Obituary

Floyd Lewis, 86, of Zionsville, passed away peacefully on July 28 th , after a short illness. Floyd and his twin brother, Allen, were born to Hazel Lewis on October 13, at the family farm in Monmouth County, New Jersey.  Floyd was predeceased by his older sister, Ethel Picone, and Allen Lewis.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty; his brother Robert Lewis of New Jersey; two daughters, Cathie Lewis of Zionsville, and Pam Garrison of Windsor, Connecticut; two grandsons, Dr. Jason Lewis of Carmel and Aaron Lewis of Whitestown; and five great-grandchildren Hadley, Bennett, Griffin, Emmerson , and Brooklyn.

Floyd was raised on the family farm and attended a one room school house through middle school. After high school he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed for a period in West Germany and France.

After receiving an honorable discharge, he attended and studied Accounting at Rutgers University. After graduation, Floyd joined US Envelope, and after a time relocated his family to the southside of Indianapolis.

It was on the Southside, where Floyd and Betty raised the girls and where Floyd became a huge fan of IU basketball and later, Colts football.  Floyd loved to spend time outside and especially be near the water. He liked to camp with his family and was an avid fisherman, both in freshwater and saltwater.  In retirement, he enjoyed spending January and February on the coast in New Smyrna, Florida where he and Betty welcomed friends and family from the Frozen North.

Floyd's grace and good nature will be missed by family and friends alike.

There will be a public calling for Floyd at Zionsville Fellowship Church, 9090 W. Oak St., Zionsville, on Thursday, August 2, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.  A celebration service will immediately follow. A private interment for the family will be held at the graveside on Friday.
