Fordie Burdine, Jr., 83, of Beech Grove, IN died unexpectedly Monday, May 30, 2016 in rehabilitation following an emergency surgery.
Born October 21, 1932 in Squib, KY, the eldest son of Ford and Alice (Baker) Burdine. He married Hassie Bryant on July 14, 1951, she survives. Also surviving are his two daughters, Diane Burdine of Beech Grove and Wanda Burdine Pithoud (Randall Pithoud) of Kindman, IN; two grandchildren, Kelsey Pithoud Fifer (Dan Fifer) of Indianapolis and Kyle Pithoud of Atlanta, GA; two great grandchildren: Allana Grace Pithoud, daughter of Kyle, of Atlanta, GA; Nicomachus Orion Fifer, son of Dan and Kelsey Fifer of Indianapolis.
Fordie, most commonly called Junior, worked as a welder at Linde & Company, a Division of Union Carbide, in Speedway, Indiana until retirement. He divided most of his life between Fifth Street in Beech Grove, Indiana and fishing, camping, and gardening near Baldrock, Kentucky. He enjoyed playing with all children, boating and traveling.
Other survivors include, brothers, Denton Burdine of Greenfield, Marvin Burdine of Greenwood, Dorwin Burdine of Fortville and Carlos Burdine of Greenwood; sisters, Lois Arthur of Somerset, KY, Letha Arthur of Somerset, KY, Myrel Burdine of Somerset, KY, Eunice Hawk of Indianapolis and Shirley Whitaker of Somerset, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clifford Burdine.
Services 10:30 a.m. June 2, 2016 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 S State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
