Francis E. Gross, age 98, of Greenwood, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014 with his loving family at his side. He was born May 5, 1916 in Logansport, IN to Franklin E. and Mary Emma (Hubbert) Gross. He graduated from Garfield High School in Terre Haute with the Class of 1934. Francis was a WWII Army veteran and a Chief Crew Dispatcher for many railroad companies. He was a Cub master for Cub pack 210 and assistant troop leader for Boy Scouts of America Troop 265. Francis was on the Board of Directors for Camp Allendale as Treasurer and was a member of Christian Men''s Fellowship.
He married the former Pearl Evelyn McGaughy on April 20, 1947 and she survives him along with his daughter, Patricia (Rex) Foster; grandchildren, Michael Trent Foster, and wife, Jennifer Phillips-Foster, Travis Aaron Foster; great grandchild, Hunter Petro. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Gross; sisters, Mary C. Clark and Marie Coric.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson Co., P.O. Box 147, Whiteland, IN 46184.
