Frieda Emma Chanley, 85, Greenwood, died June 28, 2013. She was born in Dubois, Indiana on April 6, 1928, later lived in Jasper, Indiana, and was a resident of Greenwood from 1958. She married Joseph Samuel Chanley, Jr. of Birdseye, Indiana in 1953. He died earlier this year.

She was also preceded in death by parents, Edward and Ehrie Rasche; brothers, Joseph (Hazel), Silas and Edward Rasche; sisters, Alma (Leon) Blessinger, Marie (Florian) Sermersheim, Lucille Rasche and Catherine (Clyde) Lagenour. She is survived by a sister, Bertha (Orville) Seger of Jasper; daughters, Mary (Mike) Hayward of Atlanta, Georgia, Rita (Larry) Hoffmann of Austin, Texas, Sara (late Michael) Gormley of Carmel, Indiana, Katy (Don) Stephens of San Antonio, Texas, Angela Chanley of Speedway; sons, Joseph (Cindy) Chanley of Danville, Illinois and Andrew (Lara) Chanley of Los Angeles, California; nine grandchildren, and one great grandson.

Frieda volunteered for many years at Our Lady of the Greenwood school, and at church fish fries and funeral luncheons. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, and reading, and she was an avid fan of the Colts and Pacers. She liked to travel, always enjoying the ride as much as the destination. Her positive attitude and strong faith were unmatched. Typical of her kindness and wisdom was the advice she offered when her children encountered childhood disputes: "Don''t say you can''t stand someone. Say you can''t UNDERstand them. That gives YOU something to work on, instead of expecting others to change.

Calling will be Friday, July 5, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. One hour of visitation at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church will precede the 10:00 a.m. funeral mass on Saturday, July 6, 2013. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
