Galer Jacob Miller, age 96, of Greenwood, passed away September 30, 2015. The son of Walter E. and Margaret D. (Weir) Miller, Galer was born December 14, 1918 in Hampton, Iowa.
He was a 1940 graduate of Iowa State Teachers College, was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1941 and in 1949 graduated from the University of Iowa, College of Pharmacy. A pharmacist, he retired from Eli Lilly and Company after 31 years of service. Galer was a member of Greenwood Christian Church. Galer enjoyed gardening - raising vegetables and rose, fishing in Minnesota and he and his wife enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe.
Survivors include his wife, Inger (Krogh) Miller of Greenwood, whom he married on June 4, 1947; daughter, Carolyn K. (Joe) Pittman of Greenwood; sons, Warren E. (Anne) Miller and Gordon L. (Jacquelyn) Miller, both of Washington State; three grandchildren, Laura (Nate) Streib and Steven (Marissa) Miller, both of Portland, OR and Andrea Pittman of Columbus, IN; two great-granddaughters, Claire and Myra Streib. In addition to his parents, Galer was preceded in death by his brother, Durwood Miller.
Rev. Shan Rutherford will officiate at funeral services 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
