Obituary

Gary N. McPherson, age 77, of Greenwood, devoted husband, and father, passed away at his home with his family at his side on Monday, April 15, 2013. Born in Indianapolis on July 7, 1935 to Leland and Mauzie (Laughlin) McPherson, Gary, reflecting his love of the outdoors as an avid fisherman and hunter, founded the Outdoorsman Sport Shop upon his retirement as an Indiana State Police Homicide Detective and was instrumental in the formation and origin of the Indiana State Police Dive Team. He was a graduate of the Washington High School Class of ''53 with continuing education at Franklin College and a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. In addition, Gary served his country as a Naval Reservist for eight years and was a Johnson County Sheriff''s Dept. merit board member. He was also a 50 yr. member of Southport F&AM and was of the Protestant faith. Gary opened his home to many people throughout his life as a mentor and friend and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Gary married the former Winnie Noble on March 10, 1957 and she survives him, as well as his son, G. Douglas (Kay) McPherson; daughters Sherry (Don) Trowbridge, and Becky McPherson; sister, Diane (Mike) Campbell; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with a Masonic memorial service at 10:00 a.m. and burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor''s choice.
