Emmett "Gene" Rogers (91) went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ September 12, 2023. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on June 14, 1932 to Millard and Cora Rogers. He had two sisters which preceded him in death. Gene was a marine in the early 1950's. He came home and went to work at Western Electric for 34 years and retired in 1985. He went on to work for Center Grove High School for 10 years. Gene was a loving husband to his wife Lillian for 47 years. He was a great father, grandfather and great grandfather to many children.
He has one son in Alabama, Kim Rogers, one daughter, Penny (Jeff) Helton, a grandson, Jarrett (Danielle) Helton, a granddaughter, Megan (Nick) Smallwood, and 5 great grandchildren who he was crazy about.
When Gene was well, he loved to work in his yard and garden. He was a member of the Northern Park Baptist Church in Greenwood. He loved his church but wasn't able to attend for a while due to his health. Gene was dearly loved by everyone who knew him but we have peace because we know he's with our lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
A visitation for Gene will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 1:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 2:00 pm.
