Mr. Gene William Wirey, Indianapolis, passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, December 10, 2020 at IU Health West Hospital. He was 92. Gene was born November 17, 1928 in Muncie, Indiana, the son of the late Oris A. and Esther (Switzer) Wirey.

After graduating from high school, Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy and had flown on one of the Honor Flights to Washington, DC. Gene had been employed with the Marathon Oil Company as a supervisor and retired in 1983 after 32 years of service. Gene enjoyed fishing, visiting the casino and working on cars. Gene was a farm boy and knew the value of hard work. He also enjoyed traveling and camping and was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club. He deeply loved his family and treasured the time he could spend with them, especially the grandchildren.

Gene was a member of the Indiana Campers Association, Senior Citizens of Indianapolis, the Moose Lodge, American Legion and the VFW as well as Chapel Rock Christian Church.

He is survived by his daughters, Dieanna (Glen) Martin, Jackie (Mark) Trent and Bobbie (Rich) Grigsby; his grandchildren, Sarah Trent, Melissa Hector, Rebecca Houts, Jennifer Barnes and Timothy Hutchens; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Leah Freeman.

In addition to his parents, he is joined in passing by his wife, Cora Jeneva (Fazel) Wirey, who passed just two days after her husband, Saturday, December 12, 2020 and a sister, Reba Meno.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood with Pastor Danny Thomas officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the hour of service at the funeral home.
