Genive McClain, Indianapolis, passed away on the early afternoon of Tuesday, January 25, 2022. She was 84. Genive was born January 9, 1938 in Albany, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Fred and Bertha (Thurman) Johnson.
Gevive attended school in Kentucky and came to Indiana in 1957. She had been a self-employed beautician for most of her adult life until her retirement. She had owned some shops in the area as well.
Genive enjoyed reading, shopping and was a wonderful cook. She also looked forward to daily phone conversations with her family and friends. She loved them dearly. Since her vision had deteriorated, she often said her phone was her life-line.
Genive was a member of the Friendly Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel Music, especially that of the Gaither's. She also enjoyed listening nightly to David Jeremiah on television. Genive loved the Lord and was looking forward of late to going to a better place.
Genive is survived by her daughters, Regina Edwards and Susan Brown; her grandchildren, Jason Brown, Amanda Scroggham, Jennifer Brown, Misti Rhodes and Jimmie Edwards; her great-grandchildren, Kendall Brown, Caroline Gray, Sylas Brown and Jackson Duffer; a great-great-grandson, Phoenix Kellogg; her brother, Steve (Jennifer) Johnson; a half-sister, Faye Johnson as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents,, she is preceded in passing by a son, Michael Seaman; a great-grandson, Elijah Gray and her siblings, Larry Johnson and Cathy Conover.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of services at the funeral home.
