IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Washington
Lynam, Jr.
February 19, 1937 – July 16, 2024
Mr. George Washington Lynam, Jr., Indianapolis, passed away on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 16, 2024. He was 87. George was born February 19, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana, a son of the late George W. and Helen M. (Johnson) Lynam, Sr.
George attended and graduated from Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis and then honorably served his country in the United States Navy Reserves. He began his professional career with the Indiana State Police, serving 10 years with the interstate weigh stations division as an inspector. He then worked for General Motors Truck and Bus Division as a supervisor, retiring in 1995 after 31 years of service.
George was a faithful member for 50 years at Olive Branch Christian Church, where he served as an Elder until the church was dissolved. He then continued his service to the Lord at Rocklane Christian Church, where he was a member of the security team. George loved all types of car racing and was a member of the Gene Nolan Racing Team for 25 years as well as Ray Skillman Motorsports.
Most of his leisure time was spent with his friends at the Classic Car Museum. That's where you would find him spending time with some of his very best friends. He also cherished the many hours he spent hanging out with his pet bird, Andy. George also volunteered for over 20 years at the Ronald McDonald House where he participated in preparing meals. He also was a selfless contributor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for over 60 years. He dearly loved his family, especially his great-grandchildren, and treasured the time he could spend with them.
George is survived by his children, Lori (Jeff) Beaton and Stacy Lynam; his grandchildren, Jennifer 'Jiff' (Ray) Chapman, Lisa (Rob) Philpott, Michael Lesniak and Matt Fields; his great-grandchildren, Maycie Fields, Parker Lesniak and Owen Fields; his son-in-law, Wayne (Vanessa) Lesniak; his sister, Patricia (Ted) Kirby and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in passing by his wife, Gloria Carol (Walton) Lynam; his daughter, Rhonda Lesniak and his siblings, Jean Ferguson and June (Bill) Shrieves.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm, Monday, July 22, 2024 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution in George's memory, the family has suggested those be offered to either the Ronald McDonald House or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
