GEORGE CUMMINS MAY
92, Greenwood, IN, went home to the Lord on July 6, 2012.
He was born in Corbin, Kentucky on April 7, 1920 to the late Teresa (Wilburn) May and Dr. Percy May.
He Graduated from the University of Kentucky on a tennis scholarship and lived in Chicago, Illinois before moving to Indianapolis in 1952, where he built his family Mattress business, May Mattress Company, which has been the May family business For over 60 years.
George belonged to the Masonic lodge and attended Center Grove Presbyterian Church. He loved Indianapolis and with his wife Jean, raised two sons in the Homecroft area of Southport.
George enjoyed tennis and golf and he loved to sing and play cards.
George is survived by his son, Larry (Judy) May, daughter - in - law Barbara Sue May; Grandchildren, Karl May, Barbara Jean (Rob) Lyons, Billy (Lisa) May, Andy May, Maria May, Jennifer Brummitt and Julie Carson; 19 Greatgrandchildren, and his devoted caretaker, Marissa Bond, who''s loving dedication kept him comfortable in his home for the past four years. He was comforted by his beloved pets, Porky and Max.
His wife, Jean (Twiford) May preceded him in death. His second wife, Thelma (Hickman) May, also preceded him in death. His son, Robert George May passed away on January 12 of this year, also preceding is a grandson David Carson.
Friends may call on Tuesday July 10, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. S.R. 135, Greenwood, where a funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM.
George will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on Wednesday July 11, 2012. There will be no graveside services. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Riley Hospital for Children. www.forestlawncemetery-fh.com
