Obituary

Mr. Gerald Lee "Jerry" Byrd of Whiteland, Indiana, passed away peacefully on the early morning of Saturday, November 22, 2025, having attained the age of 67 years. Jerry was born March 21, 1958, in Pasadena, Maryland, a son of the late Silas Byrd and Rose Marie (Cole) Byrd Trammell.

Jerry was a proud graduate of Pasadena High School in Maryland. He spent the greater part of his working life in the transportation industry, where he was known as a dedicated, capable, and hardworking professional. He devoted 50 years of service to the transportation industry before joining Hix Wrecker Service where he worked until retiring in 2024. Jerry's passion for vehicles extended far beyond work—he was a lifelong car enthusiast and took great pride in the Corvettes he owned over the years. He enjoyed working on and painting cars and even operated his own body shop for a time. Car shows and auctions were favorite outings, where he could admire craftsmanship, talk shop, and share his enthusiasm with others.

In his leisure time, Jerry loved being at home, especially outdoors. Whether tinkering around the house, tending to his yard, or casting a fishing line with his grandchildren into the lake behind his home, he found joy in simple moments and the company of those he loved. He cherished trips to Georgia to visit family, and his playful nature—particularly his talent for lovingly picking on his family—will be deeply missed. Known for his memorable spaghetti, which he never made the same way twice, Jerry brought warmth and humor into every gathering. He attended Southport Church of the Nazarene.

Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Tricia (Hall) Byrd; his mother, Rose Trammell; his children, Matthew Byrd, Zachary Byrd, Jalene (David) Bethel, Meagan Fosnight, and Sarah (Kyle) Carmack; and his ten beloved grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jacqueline Barnes, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Jerry is preceded in passing by his brothers, Joseph Byrd and Jeffrey Byrd, as well as his stepfather, Edward Trammell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home with David Bethel officiating. Jerry will be laid to rest that afternoon at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
