Mrs. Geraldine 'Jerry' McCollum, Indianapolis, passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, October 29, 2020. She was 88. Jerry was born March 18, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter of the late Roy Earl and Amelia Louise (Williams) Martin.
Jerry was employed for 20 years at Burger King and at one time was the assistant manager before retiring in 2006. She enjoyed doing puzzles in her leisure time as well as reading autobiographies, taking care of her cats, riding on her riding mower and playing Canasta. In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling, having visited most every state in the Union. She was always there to lend a helping hand and was full of life and energy.
She was the matriarch of her family and looked forward to and preparing family dinners. She will be remembered especially for her chili, vegetable soup and tacos. Jerry also planned the family's yearly trip to Spring Mill State Park. She will be greatly missed.
Jerry is survived by her sons, Gerald McCollum and Clint (Nichole) McCollum; her grandchildren, Brent (Alisa) McCollum, Brittany (David) White, Cory McCollum, Coty (Chastity) McCollum, Rachel (Chad) Mollmann, Jessica (Charley) Hammond, Crystal (Korrie) Russell and Mallory McCollum; 16 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Sue McCollum as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her husband, John W. 'Bill' McCollum, whom she married August 25, 1951; a son, John William McCollum, Jr. and her siblings, Roy Earl Martin, Jr., Robert Martin, William Martin, Marian Martin, Joann Polsgrove and Betty Smartz.
Services for Jerry will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until the time of service Tuesday.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested those be offered to the American Cancer Society.
