Obituary

Gerry Leonard Blake, Jr., 86, of Indianapolis, passed away July 12, 2014 at Manor Care South. The son of Gerry Leonard, Sr. and Myrtle Catherine (Dewey) Blake, Gerry was born January 12, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Gerry attended Arsenal Technical High School. He worked at Wallace Engineering for 25 years as a tool & die maker after retiring from the military. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

He married Beverly Sue Marsten-Blake (deceased) and had three children with her, Mark A. Blake, Ronda K. Blake and Jacklynn S. Baker. He then married Marian T. (Wallace) Voge Blake in 1977, she preceded him in death in 2003. Then Garry gained six stepchildren, Barbara Johnson, Mary Utterback, Barbara Teike, John Voge, Kathy Chan and Christine Voge-Popper. He had 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

More than anything, Gerry was a Great Patriot! He love his country and flag! Gerry joined the U.S. Army at age 15. He also served in the U.S. Navy. He was a Master Sergeant and served in World War II and the Korean War. There is a book about him entitled "Your Own Beloved Sons" written by Thomas Anderson, with his story of his service to this country. He was very proud of that, as we all are. Our dad, grandpa and great-grandpa will be sorely missed!

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana 46143. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood. Friends may call from 12:00 noon to the time of service at 2:00 p.m.
