Gloria Jean Alvarez Kuchaes died peacefully at her home on Monday, December 3rd, 2018 in Bargersville, Indiana at the age of 74.

Gloria was born on November 27th, 1944 in Gary, Indiana and spent her formative years in Northwest Indiana and California. She graduated from Indiana University in 1968 with a B.A. in Education and later earned her Master's Degree in 1972 -- along with other degrees later in her life. During her teaching career, she taught nearly fifty years, starting her career at St. Mark Catholic School in Southport from 1969 to 1972, Munster High School, Hammond High and Gary Lew Wallace. She devoted 35 years of her career teaching Spanish and Japanese at Indian Creek High School. Teaching was her passion and her students meant the world to her. Gloria enjoyed teaching so much, she retired at 73. She loved Jesus, her family, friends, fellow teachers and students; she will be dearly missed.

Gloria is survived by her three loving sons, Delmar, Peter, and Brian (Amy), and her three grandchildren, Cameron, Nicholas, and Mia. She is also survived by her brother, Cesar (Lena) Alvarez, and her sister, Marie (Karl) Lofgren and Christine Alvarez, as well as many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews and extended family. She is preceded in death by her father, Manuel G. Alvarez Sr., her mother, Josephine Alvarez (Cobo), her brother, Manuel (Christine) Alvarez Jr, her nephew, Joseph R. Alvarez, and her niece, Jenna M.O'Reilly.

Visitation will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana on Friday, December 7th, 2018 during the hours of 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and on Saturday, December 8th, 2018 from 9:00 am until the start of the funeral service at 10:00 am.
