Mr. Harold Paul Acker, Indianapolis, passed away on the late morning of Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was 86. Harold was born November 12, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana, a son of the late John F. and Loretta (Eck) Acker.
Harold attended Emmerich Manual High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1954. After graduation, he honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1957 until 1963. Harold was the owner / broker of Colonial Realty in Indianapolis for 50 years and had also been a self-employed contractor for many years. He built many of the homes in the Hill Valley subdivision on the southside.
Harold enjoyed fishing and especially enjoyed eating out with his wife every Sunday. He also looked forward to eating breakfast with his friends at Bob Evans, Waffle House or McDonald's. He was a member of the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors as well as St. Barnabas Catholic Church and was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.
Harold was a wonderful husband and father and loved spending time with his family, especially over the Christmas holiday.
Harold is survived by his wife and companion, Roseann (Heidelberger) Acker; his children, Patricia (Brian) Crouch, Cynthia Acker (fiance, Rick Draughn) and John (Nicole) Acker; his grandchildren, Alyse (Tristan) Johnson, Paul (Tristen) Acker, John Patrick Acker, Joe Acker and Olivia Acker; a great-grandchild, Saylor Acker; his siblings, Joseph (Ruthann) Acker, Rosemary Fox and Charlotte (Dan) Manning as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his siblings, Bernice Scifres and Bob Acker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 pm, Friday, September 15, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood. Military honors will be conferred by a contingent from the United States Army and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Military Honor Guard. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
