Obituary

Harold "Buster" David Ross, Greenwood, IN, passed away on July 22, 2025. He was 82 years old. Buster was born in Indianapolis to Harold J. and Jean Marendt-Ross. He attended Southport High School and was of the Christian faith. Buster retired from Speedway Gas Station in 2008.

Buster was born to teen parents on August 21, 1942 with cerebral palsy. At a time when "cripples" were segregated in school, Buster refused to conform to labels. He endured several pointless, experimental surgeries & rejected doctors demands to live life in a wheelchair. Buster insisted on "walking" by dragging his feet & using his crutches, even while doctors warned the longest this way of life could last would be 25 years; he walked on his canes until the age of 76.

Buster became a bodybuilder, entering - and winning - weightlifting competitions. He enjoyed many years working out alongside legends like Dick The Bruiser at Silhouette Health Spa in Indianapolis.

Buster loved watching sports & was a big supporter of Indianapolis sports teams, proudly wearing  his Colts jerseys while on yearly trips to Gatlinburg. He also enjoyed taking his family to Kings Island every summer when the kids were young.

Buster's love for animals was unmatched. He loved all of his pets immensely, whether they were horses, dogs, cats, birds, or ferrets. He had to get a rabies shot as a child after being bitten while feeding his pet squirrels.

Buster was the epitome of a social butterfly, never meeting a stranger or passing up the opportunity to charm anyone fortunate enough to enter his orbit, even if just with that killer smile. He was the life of the party at family gatherings, proudly playing Euchre as obnoxiously as possible.

Though he had many marriages and, conversely, divorces, Buster maintained good relationships and close friendships, sharing a mutual love & respect, with all of his ex-wives.

Buster is survived by his children, Matthew (Chris) Ross and Anna (Kevin) Pevely; grandchildren, Brittany Ross, DJ (Kayela) Ross, Austin Pevely, & Kelly Pevely; great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Everly, & Lucas; sister-in-law, Judy Ross; nephew Brad (Shannon) Ross & niece Terri Ross; great-nephews, Terry Moore, Sean Creal & Joe (Maria) Ross; great-niece Katie (Chris) Goodyear; stepchildren, George, Debbie, Terri, Ann, Jeanette, Ronda & Melinda and many stepgrandchildren & stepgreat-grandchildren; his ex-wives, Mary Sipe, Linda Gail, & Linda Christine; first love & lifelong friend, Sue (Jim) Shambaugh; and his granddog, Miss Bella Mia Pevely.

Buster is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda Lou; siblings Joe Ross & Donna Ross; stepdaughter, Teresa Wetzel; step-grandson, Jimmy Wetzel, Jr.; and his beloved dog, Midnight.

The family would like to extend their eternal gratitude to those who so unselfishly helped Buster in his later years; neighbors Bill Long & Steve Woods, World's Greatest roommate Jackie "Lee" Burns & the entire, loving staff of Greenwood Health & Living.

A visitation for Buster will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, Indiana from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 3:00 p.m.
