Helen F. Porter, 89, of Indianapolis, passed away July 14, 2014. Born December 20, 1924 in Birdseye, Indiana, she is the daughter of the late Homer R. and Gladys (Newton) Dewitt. She was a graduate of Manual Emmerich High School. On May 30, 1946 she married Joseph E. Porter in Indianapolis, and he preceded her in death in 2012. Helen was an active member of Smith Valley United Methodist Church and belonged to the White River Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She worked as a clerk for American States Insurance Company retiring in 1980.
She is survived by two daughters, Pricilla Porter and Wanda Jean Vanderpool; two sisters, Norma Lee Volz, and Francie Villanti; two brothers, Harold Dewitt and Darwin Dewitt; two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday July 17, 2014 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South S.R. 135, Greenwood, IN 46131.
