Hershel Lawrence, Jr., 77, of Mooresville passed away December 19, 2019. He was born June 4, 1942 in Indianapolis to Hershel and Mae Lawrence.

Hershel graduated from Manuel High School in Indianapolis and went on to marry his sweetheart, Darlene in 1964.  In 1967 he was drafted by the Army and went to serve in Vietnam.  He fought bravely for our country and earned the rank of Sergeant and several medals, including Vietnam Service medal with 2 bronze stars, National Defense Service award, Vietnam Campaign medal, 2 overseas service bars, to name a few.  When Hershel came back to the states he and Darlene raised their 2 sons.  He went to work in the Kroger bakery making donuts and joined the Bakery and Confectionery Union.  He retired from Kroger after more than 30 years of employment. Hershel enjoyed traveling around the country camping with the family.  He was a true outdoorsman and loved to fish.  After Darlene passed away in 1989, Hershel met and married Barbara Greene and they blended their families together.  More than anything, Hershel loved all of his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, but he had a very special bond with his great grandson Devin, whom he raised from childhood.  He will be greatly missed.

Hershel is survived by his wife, Barbara (Greene) Lawrence; children, Hershel (Carlotta) and Greg (Lynne Brown) Lawrence, Thomas (Kimberly) Wells, James Wells and Denise (Danny) Neil; sisters, Anita Hubbard and Madonna Walters; grandchildren, Russell Chandler, Shawn Chandler, Christopher Chandler, Haley Whitlock, Samantha Lawrence, Kristen Lawrence, Isaac Wells, Shannon Wells, Tommy Wells, Christopher Neil and Kyle Neil; great-grandchildren, Devin, Collin, Jacob, Joseph, Jeremiah, Jasmine, Kaylee, Matthew, Kristen, Holly, Mariah, Kaitlyn, Carl, Layla, Myla, Cameron, Malachi, and Kylee; great-great-grandchildren, Zoey Rose, Kayleigh and Kyrah; and many more extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Hershel is preceded in death by his first wife, Darlene; sisters, Betty and Phyllis; stepbrother, Charles; and grandson Derek.

A memorial service will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home at a date yet to be determined.
