IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Isom Paul
"Ike" Cox
October 22, 1936 – October 25, 2022
Mr. Isom Paul "Ike" Cox, Indianapolis, passed away on the late evening of Tuesday, October 25, 2022. He was 86. Ike was born October 22, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana, a son of the late Isom and Dorothea Edna (Adams) Cox.
Ike attended Arsenal Technical High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1962. Soon after his graduation, he was inducted into the United States Marine Corps where he honorably served his country during the Viet Nam Conflict. Ike then attended medical school but decided that wasn't for him and he then began a lengthy career with Marion County working as a civil engineer until ultimately retiring as a security officer with Pinkerton.
Ike was a quiet, private man and was very much a homebody. He was a devoted family man who deeply loved his wife, Hellen. She was his world. She was an excellent cook and he loved eating the delicious meals she prepared for the family. Ike and Hellen also enjoyed spending time together fishing and sailboating from time to time.
Ike also enjoyed music and could play the guitar and piano as well as the violin. An intelligent man, Ike enjoyed reading, especially history. He loved reading his Bible and studying the Scriptures. He spent some of his leisure time woodworking and would do some carpentry as well. He assisted his stepson, Larry, in building a cabin in Parke County that the family enjoyed immensely. He also liked to watch the Indianapolis Colts play and wrestling on television.
Ike is survived by his wife, Hellen M. (Marsh) Cox; his stepson, Larry W. Jones; his grandchildren, Karissa Jones, Amanda N. (Blake) Yentes, Schuyler (Steven) Hurst and Joshua Jones; his siblings, Connie L. Reberger, Fred V. Cox, Della (Lyndy) Shaw and Eva Neel and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his daughters, Portia G. Magnuss and Phyllis Cox as well as his siblings, Thelma Parker, Mitchell L. Cox and Sherman E. Cox.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Monday, October 31, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with Pastor Danny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
