Obituary

James M. Evans, age 90 of Indianapolis passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. He was born August 27, 1926 in Blaine, TN to J. Sam and Hattie M. (Wilson) Evans. He was a World War II Army veteran and became a Truck Driver after his military service. James drove for McClean Trucking for 40 years and had over one million miles without an accident. He was a member of Teamsters Local # 135 and served as President of the Local # 135 Retirees Club. He loved to work on small engines and was known to many of his neighborhood children as the Candyman because his pockets were always full.

James married the former Martha Ray and she preceded him in death in November 1993. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Burns of Coatesville and Phyllis Hoagland of North Vernon; brother, Pete (Myrtle) Evans of Knoxville, TN; sisters, Bob Lois Copeland of Blaine, TN and Mary Ruth Mayes of Mascot, TN; grandsons, Vincent Mejia of Austin, TX and Michael Mejia of Seymour, IN; 2 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack and Kenneth Evans; sister, Kathleen Burgin and special friend, Catherine Gosman.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 12 at 12:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
