Obituary

James "Jim" Hammond, age 71, passed away peacefully at his home on June 26th, 2026. Born in Lafayette, Indiana, he was the son of the late James Erwin and Francais Irene Hammond.

Jim was raised in Kentland, Indiana and attended South Newton County High School. He also attended college at Indiana State University where he earned a Master's Degree in Counseling. Jim spent his entire career as a behavioral consultant working for individuals with intellectual disabilities. He was an advocate, mentor, and friend to a countless number of clients.

Jim lived a full life doing the things he was most passionate about. He was an avid skier who spent as much time as he could on the slopes. Music was also a major interest. He wrote and recorded a CD of his songs paying tribute to those who meant so much to him in life.

Jim was a kind and gentle soul who put one hundred and fifty percent into everything he did. He never broke his promises and was always there for anyone who needed him. Jim was a loving husband and devoted friend who will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind.

Jim is survived by his wife Bonnie Peck-Hammond, brother Gary Hammond, niece and nephew Carlene (Hunt) Hammond, Anthony Hammond, numerous cousins; adopted family, Megan McCain and Hanah "Sunshine" Morgan; and life-long best friends Joe and Joann DeCanto.
